CeBIT 2014: New Functions of the Future windream Version 6.0

Bochum. windream GmbH, the producer and vendor of the windream Enterprise Content Management system, will present some of the new functions of the future windream version 6.0 and the new windream Application Connector for the first time at this year’s CeBIT, from March 10 to 14 in Hannover. Furthermore, the ECM provider from Bochum will present the most recent versions from the windream software portfolio, such as the Business Process Management system windream BPM, the e-mail archiving solution windream Exchange, and the scan solution windream Imaging. As in recent years, the exhibition program will be complemented by the solutions of the co-exhibiting windream partners. The windream partner stand will be located in hall 3, stand number J20.

Live for the first time: The new functions of windream version 6.0

The future windream version 6.0 – the next major release after the current version 5.5 – will include an enhanced search function and significant improvements of the document preview application windream DocView.

Enhanced search function

The search function of the ECM system will offer a new section in version 6.0, allowing users to display the index data of documents selected from a result list. This will enable users to not only view the contents of selected documents directly, but also to access the corresponding meta-data. Furthermore, window positions and sizes customized by the user will be saved individually and recovered in later search operations. Search parameters entered by the user can be hidden automatically, once a new search operation is launched. This way more space will be available for the result list. Further features to come will include a plausibility check for search parameters, a history for the “Did You Mean ...” function for search terms and a customizable design, similar to the Office 2010 and 2013 themes.

Even more convenient: the windream “DocView“ document preview

The windream DocView document preview – an optional component of the windream ECM system for a quicker and more convenient view on documents of various formats – will offer a clear overview of all annotations and comments added to documents by various users in version 6.0. Annotations will now be displayed in a list and automatically sorted in chronological order. The list will be displayed as a sidebar in DocView. Unlike the default display of annotations in the document text, this feature will allow a significantly enhanced display of embedded annotations. Furthermore, DocView 6.0 will allow users to display several document previews simultaneously. The documents selected for a preview will be displayed in the single tab pages of the application. One mouse click will allow users to switch between the various document views of the preview function. A special highlight of the windream document preview will be the possibility to show multi-page TIFF documents as cover images. The single pages can be displayed in a quasi-3D-view on screen; the application can zoom the currently selected page to the foreground, while displaying the following and previous pages in the background, simultaneously. This will allow a quick and extremely convenient navigation across document contents.

New: Quick execution of important ECM commands via the windream Application Connector

The so-called “windream Application Connector“ allows users to automatically initiate and execute typical ECM commands, such as the indexing of documents or search queries from third-party applications, automatically and via previously configured keyboard shortcuts – the so-called hotkeys. Hotkeys can be configured individually and in accordance with the individual requirements of the user. This way, it is e.g. possible, to launch ECM actions directly from third-party applications, such as ERP systems, and to link these actions to the functions of the windream ECM system. The windream Application Connector receives the commands linked to the corresponding keys and processes them. This allows users to initiate complex ECM actions, similar to Makros, and to execute them via the press of a key – at the user’s command, so to say.
